Data Dragon by macourtney
Data Dragon
In today's world, data is the new gold. Any modern dragon wouldn't be caught dead without a big mound of data in his lair. Thus, the data dragon.

This is my first attempt at painting a dragon and a mound of gold. The dragon came out pretty well. The gold, on the other hand, didn't come out quite like I wanted it to. I didn't overlap any of the ones and zeros which makes it look more like a sheet with a pattern of ones and zeros on it than a mound. The painting took about 4 months to complete.

Alabaster Chameleon Front by macourtney
Alabaster Chameleon Front
A front view of my chameleon sculpture. Even though I used power tools, this sculpture took 9 months to finish. I'm still learning how to use the tools.

Carved Alabaster.

This is a painting based on a photo handed out at a Sunnyvale Art Club meeting. Everyone in the club was given the same photo and we all painted our interpretation. All of the paintings were brought together for the March meeting's monthly contest. This painting tied for first place in the gold section.

Landscapes are not my usual subject and this was a learning experience. I tried to copy the photo as I saw it. There are a few places where the painting didn't come out as I hoped, but over all, I think it was successful.

Dancing Fae by macourtney
Dancing Fae
Another painting based on a Fae stock photo: Valentine19 by faestock

I added the background based on a stage. It seemed appropriate and gave the painting a nice dark background to contrast the light skinned Fae. Unfortunately, my camera picked up the background and blew out Fae.

This is the biggest canvas I have ever painted on. The painting took me nine months to complete (though I was forced to stop working on it for two months over the summer). The final painting was worth the wait.

Oil on canvas, 36 x 48 inches.
